Elementary, My Dear Watson

by Alec Silverman

I had decided to use the headline either way for this history-making run by Tom Watson at becoming, among other things, the oldest golfer ever to win a major championship. The famous Sherlock Holmes quote was first used to describe Watson’s amazing skill on the links en route to claiming his first British Open Championship [...]

Reality Kills the Music Video Star

by Carlos Phelps

The windows were down
and a wind stirs the fabric
as he sips the dry wine.
On the table lays a photograph
long forgotten and faded.
He leans the seat back
to rest his eyes and remembers
the music played and images flashed
on that hot summer night.
On the table next to the photograph
lays those words in a letter.
What was that song playing [...]

As we all know (or should know), July 19, 2009 marks the 40th anniversary of “one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind” as Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to set foot on the moon.  Kicking off the 40th anniversary year last summer was the enchanting  3D animated [...]

Well it’s really on now. In the shadow of the Prive’ fines, the Gaming Board has announced it is in full audit of around 9 venues in Las Vegas. This has the rest of the sheep nervous and the smaller clubs are starting to crack down. It will be very soon that we will all [...]

Las Vegas streets are becoming more and more difficult to travel. There is roadwork everywhere. The trouble is, many places that have been coned off never get worked on.

THE POKER HOUSE

by Debbie Lynn Elias

Lori Petty, a Venice local,  has conquered the silver screen with her indelible performances like Kit Keller in “A League of Their Own” or Tank Girl in, well, “Tank Girl.”  She dazzled on the small screen as well producing and starring in the tv hit “Lush Life” on Fox and made her mark on Broadway [...]

by Sir Heath Burkhalter

I recently read that Planet Hollywood had agreed to pay the Nevada Gambling Regulators $750,000.00 for a wide variety of charges regarding Prive’ Nightclub on a wide variety of issues, from admitting minors, to hiring employees with criminal records, to physical and sexual assault. I’m going to be blunt on several of these issues so [...]

Diamond Point

by Carlos Phelps

Sails line the coast
and the sun reflects
off silver on the table
as I pour my Dos Equis.
The wind flirts
with triangle white
and the waitress’ dress
as Spanish music plays.
Cars arouse the window
with a lively flow
as the waitress
brings my lunch.
Fabric stirs, ice glistens,
the captain’s eye bubble —
I see their brown luster
and wish I could sail.

Man-o-Man – Manny and Company With Another Comeback

by Michael Chavez

Manny Ramirez is back! Oh, you’ve known about this. I wasn’t so sure myself until Friday night. Manny hit a two-run shot in the sixth, his 536th overall, good enough to tie Mickey Mantle for 15th on the all-time list. Impressive.
But it was not as impressive as the Dodgers’ team offense. In their series opener [...]
